Frequently Asked Questions about selling content with the InPlayer paywall

Getting started

Signing up and getting started with monetizing your content

To create your InPlayer account, just follow these steps:

1. Go to https://dashboard.inplayer.com/register.
2. Enter your information and click Register.
3. Go to your inbox and look for an email with the subject “Welcome to InPlayer!“.

5. Contact us on support@inplayer.com so that we can enable live payments on your account.

Creating an account on our platform is completely free.

However, if you prefer to test things out first, you can contact us on support@inplayer.com asking us for a demo account. We will create one for you, and will also give you a demo credit card which you can use to make test payments.

Once you are happy with everything, you can move to create an actual live account, which we will connect to a real payment processor as soon as you’re ready.

On our platform, you protect your content by putting it in an “asset”.

You can think of an asset as the chest you put your content it, of our paywall as the lock that guards the chest, and of the customer’s payment as the key that unlocks the chest.

So, you put your content in an InPlayer asset, you put the asset on your website, and once a customer logs into the asset and makes a purchase, they will be able to see the content inside it.

Once you create an InPlayer asset, you just need to get the embed codes for it, and embed it on your webpage just like you would with any other web object.

For step by step guides on how to create the various types of assets our platform supports, make sure to check out this section.

Sales

Selling your content

We currently support two methods of outpayment.

  1. Using Stripe Connect.
With this method, you can pair your Stripe and InPlayer accounts and have the funds from all customer transactions transferred onto your own bank account in real-time.
If you have a Stripe account, we encourage you to use this method.
  2. Using the default method.
If you do not have your own Stripe account, then the funds from all customer transactions will first go to us, and then, at the end of each month, they will be transferred over to you, to the bank or PayPal account of your choice.
Note that there’s a $250 threshold for the transfer. This means that if you have accumulated less than $250 by the payout date, the outpayment will not be processed. Instead, it will be postponed until the total accumulated earnings exceed $250.

To pair your Stripe and InPlayer accounts, make sure to read this article.

Our platform supports almost all forms of online content: video, audio, text, HTML, file etc.

Creating discount codes, or Vouchers, is a great way to grow your customer base.

To learn how to create vouchers on our platform, make sure to read this article.

In case a customer is not entirely satisfied with their purchase, they can submit a refund request.

When this happens, we will work together with the customer to figure out what the issue was, and if necessary, we will forward the refund request to the publisher of the content, who always has the final say as to whether a refund will be granted or not.

Usually, a customer can be granted a refund, within 72 hours after their refund request was submitted, in the following cases:

  • The customer made a duplicate purchase using the same email address.
  • The customer’s country was geo-blocked.
  • The live streaming was cancelled.
  •  The content wasn’t published.
  • More than 80% of the content had streaming issues (no sound, or poor sound & video quality).
  • The content was misleading – the description didn’t relate to the actual content.

The customer refunds will be issued on the same payment method as the original payment.

Refund requests based on personal reasons that prevented a customer from watching/accessing the content are usually not granted.

As stated here, the VAT on digital content is calculated from the end-user country of residence when selling in the EU (e.g. If the user lives in Sweden, Swedish VAT should be applied). For services provided to end-users outside the EU, VAT is not being charged.

For the UK, you can use the VAT MOSS to report the sales you made in each country quarterly and pay VAT through the system. The government then distributes the VAT to each EU country.
